Hand Cut Dovetails (for women and non-binary makers) September 22nd 10:00-4:00
In this workshop we will tackle the classic and impressive dovetail joint. Commonly used in furniture making and fine woodworking, a corner made with dovetail joints is strong, functional, and beautiful. Using only hand saws and chisels, students will learn to cut dovetails and will practice by making a simple wooden box. We will go through the process of marking out our dovetails, considering design choices and functionality. Time will be spent practicing the proper use of the Japanese pull-saw to cut and chisels to fine-tune our joinery. This is a mindful practice that requires focus and repetition, and our workshop will have a slow pace and celebrate the process of making. There is a materials fee for this class of $15. Each student will pay the instructor directly at the beginning of class.
