Butterfly Joint Tea Tray (For Women & Non-binary Makers) August 1st 6:00-9:00
In this course we will learn how to use traditional hand woodworking skills to make a Japanese style tea tray with a butterfly joint inlay. We will start with a piece of walnut and a bowtie-shaped piece to insert. Using chisels and knives we will carve out and inlay it into the wood. We will finish the piece with sandpaper and a hand-rubbed oil finish. You will leave this class with a completed tea tray ready to use. The cost of materials is between $15-20 and students should pay the instructor directly at the beginning of class. Students also receive a coupon for 1 half price Open Shop night as a bonus. We hope to have you return to practice you new skills and make another tea tray or work on a different project with the support of the Open Shop Instructor.
