Bandsaw Box (for Women & Non-binary Makers) August 17th & 18th 1:00-5:00 pm
In this two-day workshop, students will learn how to build a small hardwood box made using only the bandsaw. Starting from a solid block of wood, bandsaw boxes utilize simple construction techniques to create boxes of curved and unique shapes. This technique allows for creative expression as the design possibilities are nearly unlimited. Students will have several varieties of wood to choose from and will design and build their own small boxes. After a review of safety and equipment, students will draw out their boxes and cut them out on the bandsaw. After gluing pieces and leaving to dry overnight, students will sand and finish the boxes on day two. We will spend a short time on day two covering decorating and finishing techniques.
There is a small materials fee for this class payable directly to the instructor at the beginning of class. Expect to spend $5-10 depending on your choice of wood and finishing techniques. Each student will receive a coupon for 1 half price Open Shop night with their registration. We hope you will come back and practice your new skills!
