Fireweed carver Jessie is hosting another installment of carving...
Come by any time between 5:00 & 7:30pm!
Bring your own chair and hand-carving project to the garden for some company, summer recreating, and sharing tips and tricks. This is NOT A CLASS, just a community hangout.
**Bathroom availability note: unfortunately, the garden does NOT have a bathroom available on site. There is one available about a block away at a church for community use.
This is a FREE event, open to all. If you like/are able to contribute to the shop and our new physical space , we have some different donation levels at registration, or you can choose "FREE!" registration. Thank you!
We are extremely happy to partner with Tamales y Bicicletas! Tamales y Bicicletas (TyB) is a nonprofit that focuses on developing healthy Latino immigrant, and BIPOC communities through bikes, cultural empowerment, and environmental justice. The solar greenhouse project at our community garden is designed to promote food security while educating our communities on how to localize our food system in all seasons.
Keep an eye on what they're up to: https://www.facebook.com/tamalesybicicletas/
What to bring:
-a chair for sitting in a circle (optional, just easier to talk than sitting at the picnic tables)
-your project, tools (see blockprinting exception below).
**woodblock printers: if you took a class with Women's Woodshop/Fireweed this year or in the past, or have some prior experience, woodblock instructor Jessie will be there with some tools and various colored inks--as well as a few blocks for sale ($5 each, available as a registration add-on or venmo/paypal/cash at the event). Bring your own paper/cards/fabric etc for printing or use Jessie's scraps (printmaking quality greeting card and envelopes available as registration add-on as well, may have more available to buy at the event too). Email firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
**broom makers: if you would like to purchase broomcorn, we have 1 pound bundles available for sale at $10 each. Remember to bring your own twine, knife and foot winder.
**Spoon carvers: if you took a class with Women's Woodshop/Fireweed this year or in the past, or have some prior experience, we will welcome you! Happily, we DO have a few blanks available this time -- we would ask for $10 per blank. Please be prepared to bring other tools to finish (locally, you can purchase knives and gloves at Jack's Hardware and Farm Supply)
