Guest Entrepreneur Class: Make Your Own Scandinavian Turn Shoes (Co-ed)
Create your own custom-fit, comfortable leather shoes. In this four-day class, you will select from a variety of leather colors, cast your feet to create a custom-fit pattern, and learn different hand-stitching techniques to make a durable pair of turn shoes. Turn shoes are sewn inside out and then turned right-side out ready to wear. No experience necessary, however you will use your hand and arm muscles to sew and hammer the shoes. With proper care, these shoes can last a lifetime. After taking this class, you'll be prepared to make another pair - an opportunity to purchase tools will be available. This class is small so you'll receive lots of one-on-one instruction with the teacher.
The instructor, Martha Brummitt, has been making shoes for three years. She teaches boatbuilding to youth by day and in her spare time teaches a variety of sewing skills to adults.
